Our Story

Three generations in the HVACR business gives us a breadth of experience and perspective.

Jerry Wooden was born May 19, 1940. He enlisted in the Air Force August of 1957 serving 3 years, 10 months and 2 days. A crew engineer, he was stationed out of Japan and flew missions over Korea’s DMZ.

Jerry went to work for Delta in June of 1964. He got his HVAC license in 1966, while at Delta, and started Wooden Service Company the same year. He did heating and air work in the evenings and on his days off from Delta and Wooden Service continued to exist this way, part time, until 1992.

By 92 Wooden Service had accumulated quite a customer base considering that Jerry was doing it in addition to his full time job at Delta and when Delta offered employees early retirement packages he took one. Wooden Service Company went full time that year and he had plenty of work to keep him busy. Without any advertisement, on word of mouth by virtue of good work at fair prices and doing right by the customer, the company was standing on its own.

Leading up to this point Jerry had employed a number of helpers. A few of those young men have gone on to start their own heating and air companies and have been pretty successful. Two notable helpers during this period were his son, Jeff Wooden, and his current wife, Virginia Wooden. Virginia helped him prior to 1992 but from that point on she was with him on almost every single job he did. Jerry’s customers still lament that she was in the crawl spaces and attics right beside him every time he came out.

Next up is Jeff Wooden’s full time entrance into Wooden Service Company. The story continues once we’ve gathered some more information…
